What to Consider When Buying a New TV
In order to ensure that you are ending up with a TV that is the most fitted and suitable for your specific needs, it is important to know exactly what you are looking for when choosing which one to purchase. There are therefore many aspects to consider when selecting your new product, as the vast variety of televisions available on the market today can otherwise seem overwhelming.
One of the first things to look at is the resolution. Whilst full HD 1080p is still currently the standard for digital TV broadcasting, more 4k content is becoming available due to modern UHD Blu-ray players and websites like YouTube and Netflix. So if you feel that it is important to have a TV that holds sustainable, better quality imaging, then the 4k is best for you.
The size of the screen itself is also a big factor to consider, as televisions range hugely in dimensions (depth, height and width). You need to therefore decide on an optimal distance that you wish view your TV from; always remembering that if you can see the individual pixels of the screen, you're too close! It is also vital that you carefully measure the space that you wish to display the TV, so that you are aware of what size will comfortably fit.
Choosing a TV with an array of HDMI inputs is helpful as this will allow you to connect gaming devices, VCRs, and other extra components that you may need to it. Whilst most TVs today will have at least 4 inputs, it is always a good idea to check so that there is no potential of you being left dissatisfied.
Refresh rate is also important as it is significant in determining how well the content on your TV is displayed. The refresh rate is “the rate at which your TV display refreshes the picture in a single second”, so the higher that this is the more likely you are to have a smooth and fluid picture quality. It is important that you do not purchase a television with a refresh rate lower than 120Hz, as going below this standard can cause jitteriness.
Although it is important to look at a TVs audio quality, it is well known that even the most expensive products can have poor sound. It therefore may be necessary for you to think about investing in additional speakers, surround-sound systems or headphones alongside your TV as this will provide you with a greater auditory flow. Know that it is easy to find many such accessories so it is not such a big issue if the TV itself is not of the highest sound quality.
Getting a TV with a good contrasting ratio will determine how well the TV can range from Peak white to the darkest black (how well its brightness can be adjusted). A greater difference between these two points is usually better, yet television manufacturing companies have different ways of measuring it. This therefore means that comparing this aspect between different branded TVs is very difficult, so always bear that in mind. If you want to test a specific TVs contrasting ratio you should look at the brightness, sharpness and other picture settings in store.
When it comes down to the final decision of what TV you are going to purchase, price will inevitably be a major factor. It is therefore sometimes more suitable to decide on how much you would ideally be willing to spend before you even begin to look, as it will then be easier to find a television that comes within your financial restraint. With a set price in mind, you can then start to consider other factors in your buying process and find the best model for all of your needs.
It is beneficial to remember that the greatest TVs are not always the most expensive, as this can often be misled through persuasive advertisements, etc. Keep this in mind when selecting your new TV… and always be sure to read other consumer reviews before purchase!
